Sign Of Irony

GOP Candidates for Twp. Committee Just Don't Get It.

Nov 4, 2006

For a candidate to place their sign next a sidewalk (or at least what passes as one) in downtown Barnegat that is in this shape is rubbing their failure to provide safe infrastructure in the voters' faces. The most ironic point is the use of the words "Unity-Pride-Progress" in their campaign signs. Are sidewalks like this an example of Pride & Progress? We the people of Barnegat deserve better than this. So we at DowntownBarnegat.com have some other locations that Mr. Melchiondo & company should place their signs.
    1. Next to our town clock in honor of killing Heritage Day. The greatest example of town Pride Barnegat has ever seen.
    2. Next to the EMS station to show how much they support our volunteers. Now that's Unity.
    3. Next to our Youth Center. Since our children were kicked out of it, they will have plenty of time to hang around and read about the Unity, Pride & Progress they are experiencing.
    4. Next to our childrens' downtown playground that was replaced by a football field. More Progress.
    5. Next to the firehouse, where we were able to conveniently vote in the past.
    6. Next to our garbage cans that blow around in the street. It cost me almost $100 to replace the free township cans. That smells like a back-door tax increase to me. As each town around us progresses with the use of robo-cans, we go backwards.
    7. Next to our township tennis courts (when they weren't covered with garbage cans). Mr Hartman thinks this would make a nice parking lot.
    8. On the grounds of Project Playground (I think that's the name of it). This great community project is not credited to the many volunteers, but to Mr. Melchiondo, Cirulli & Novak...can you feel the Unity?
    9. At Pirate's Day -- which also is now not a community event, but something the GOP takes credit for!! This should be a community event, run by the community & not used for political gain by anyone.
    10. At Community Day (you know the event run by Mr. Melchiondo's wife) that tried to take over Heritage Day (and will try to do so again next year). This is an example of their sense of Unity, Pride & Progress.
    11. Under the Chamber of Commerce sign. It is impossible to know where the Township Committee and the Chamber of Commerce begin and end. They work together as one...now that's Unity. But it's at the expense of the people.
    12. Outside the Cox House. Nice Progress! Well at least the steps were painted, and Mr. Melchiondo gave them a bed.
    13. Next to our many unpaved streets -- especially the ones that had money set aside for them to be repaved. Again...what happened to that money??
    14. Under the beautiful "Welcome to Historic Downtown Barnegat" banners that hang outside of town hall. We asked them to take down our logo which they used without our permission...but they won't respond to our request.
    15. Next to our Post Office that will be leaving our downtown, turning it into a ghost town. This will all be done with the help of our Township Administrator -- he's responsive to them.
    16. Next to the Aquifer where the EDC (Economic Development Committee) meets. Now this is Progress! Mr. Melchiondo changes the rules to appoint a non-resident friend (who just happens to be the Chamber of Commerce President), but at least we have a beautiful self-storage building to look at on Rt. 9, and another drug store to go to.

We're sorry if this sounds "anti-incumbent"...that is not our intention...but we are pro TRUE Unity, Pride, & Progess. These issues we raise are the truth! And it is our duty as citizens to speak truth to Power. I ask you...have we experienced Unity, Pride, & Progress over the past few years? Even though there were almost a thousand viewers to the site this month, we did not receive one single response which could defend the loss of our quality of life we speak about. We have always given Mr. Melchiondo, Mr. Cirulli, Mrs. Blumenthal, & Mr. Hartman the opportunity to address our concerns...but they arrogantly refused to help us make our town better. We gave candidates Melchiondo, Cirulli & Novak a fair and balanced way to explain what they would do for our town, and they wouldn't even give us the courtesy of a response.

From what we see, the people of Barnegat don't reward arrogance, and they are smart enought to know Unity, Pride, & Progress when they see it. If Mr. Melchiondo, Cirulli & Novak are given the honor of serving the people of Barnegat, we hope they will do better than what they have already done.
