Democratic Primary June 2nd Schenker and Rubenstein v.s. Clemente and Effron for Barnegat Twp. Committee Monday, May 11th 2009 Jeff Schenker and Fred Rubenstein have been nominated as the official candidates of the Barnegat Democratic Organization for Barnegat Twp. Committee. They will face a challenge from Marianne Clemente and Howard Effron in the Democratic primary that will be held on June 2nd. The Barnegat Democratic Organization has put forth two strong candidates in Schenker and Rubenstein. Both have impressive backgrounds and experience to serve Barnegat. To view their background information and platform visit their official website BarnegatNow.com. Fred Rubenstein is the big story in Barnegat politics this year. As a long-time Republican, Rubenstein was outspoken against the current Republican leadership. Because he put serving the people of Barnegat over party politics he was not re-appointed to the Zoning Board and Traffic Safety Advisory Committee. Rubenstein is the first recipient of DowntownBarnegat.com's Award of Character for his actions. Click here to read about it. Rubenstein has since switched parties and clearly impressed the local Democratic leadership so much that he -- along with Schenker -- have become their official Democratic candidates. Not to be overlooked though are their challengers in the Primary...Marianne Clemente and Howard Effron. Clemente is the former Secretary of the Barnegat Township Democratic Club and both she and Effron have been very active in the community. Effron told DowntownBarnegat.com that they are running as an alternative in the Primary and "our campaign is based on transparency, information and fiscal responsibility, something the present administration does not give us." To learn more about Clemente and Effron visit their website ClementeandEffron.com. On June 2nd, local Democrats will select their candidates to run in our General Election this November. One of the glaring differences between Barnegat's Democratic and Republican candidates over recent years is that the Democrats have openly discussed issues while the Republicans have been unaccountable to the people of Barnegat. That is why DowntownBarnegat.com is running a Democratic Primary Candidates' Forum. This will give all Democratic candidates a fair way to address some basic issues. Become an educated voter, look at both Democratic candidates' websites, and also look at how they answer the questions in our Candidates' Forum. Then make up your mind and vote for who will best serve you on the Twp. Committee.Disclaimer: We are not responsible for all views posted on this website.
