Township Committee Presents "Fuzzy Math"

Committeeman Thomas Hartman is preparing the people of Barnegat for some bad news. Coming at a time when many of us cannot afford it, we could be paying more in taxes than we should. Hartman projects the tax rate to be $1.40 per $100 of assessed value, when it really should be more like $1.29. The whole issue of calculating the tax rate is meant to be confusing. The more confusing this issue is, the easier it is for the average citizen to not understand what they are paying. Please check out a very well-thought-out explanation of our tax rate at The Barnegat Press. The Barnegat Press does a great job and can explain these figures much better than we can.

The average person understandably may not fully grasp the complexities of how tax rates are figured out...but the bottom line is if you are paying more than you should, then that is wrong. If the Township is taking in more money, how about giving the tax payer back some of our hard earned cash. We should all remember the promises of last November and look forward to not spending a penny more in taxes this year. We are happy to give the Township Committee space right here on this website to explain their tax plan. We're sure they respect our readers enough to let you know how much of your money they plan on spending this year.
