Hartman's Running-mate Novrit Sent to Jail
Investigation of wrong-doing in Barnegat called for

Republican Committeeman Thomas Hartman's running mate in 2002 - Virginia Rose Novrit - was sentenced to 3 years and 5 months in Federal prison for her part in a mortgage fraud scheme in Georgia and South Carolina. Democratic Committeeman Len Morano is calling for a full investigation to look into any possible financial wrong-doing while Novrit was in office in Barnegat. When the Hartman/Novrit team won election in 2002, the Barnegat Committee became controlled by the Republican Party that still controls it today. Novrit's conviction raises additional questions about a Committee involved in scandal and controvery while public trust slips away.

Hartman's running-mate Novrit has been convicted of Conspiracy, Bank Fraud, Wire Fraud, and Money Laundering. In addition to the 3 years and 5 months in prison, Novrit will have to pay $839,585 in restitution. Novrit's crimes are reported to have started when she stepped down from office in 2004 during which time she was serving as Mayor, being appointed by Thomas Hartman and the Republican-led Committee. Even though The SandPaper reports that "the scheme began in late 2004, which coincided with the time that Novrit resigned from the Barnegat Township Comittee", Hartman told The SandPaper Novrit's crimes "have nothing to do with the township." But Hartman has lied to the press in the past. For example, his statements on record regarding killing Barnegat's Heritage Day were filled with untruths. This leads the public to not know when Committeeman Hartman is telling the truth or not. Also the people of Barnegat have to seriously look at Thomas Hartman's judgement in not only running with Novrit, but also in supporting her as Mayor of our town.

Committeeman Morano's request for an investigation is the only way the people will know for sure that no wrong-doing was done while Novrit was in office. Hopefully this investigation will give the public confidence that no illegal activities took place in Barnegat, and Novrit's criminal activities truly started AFTER she left Barnegat. Barnegat deserves leaders that we can be proud of..and that we can trust are telling us the truth.
