HARTMAN QUITS!!
Controversial Committeeman runs away from re-election
Stating personal health reasons, the man who took the lead for his fellow Republicans in trying to kill Barnegat's Heritage Day is calling it quits at the end of the year. Instead of facing what looked like a sure defeat in November at the hands of the voters, Thomas Hartman will instead step aside. Continuing to uphold the current GOP-led Committee's position of unaccountability to the people of Barnegat, Hartman will not stand on his record, but will instead just simply walk away. Hartman's quitting is no surprise to many residents. The big question is -- why at this time?

For everyone who has read this website over the past few years, it was clear and verifiable that Hartman lied to the press when he spoke for his fellow Republicans when pulling support for Barnegat's annual Heritage Day. At the time, DowntownBarnegat.com asked the question -- if Hartman could lie about a little thing like a community event, would he tell the truth about bigger issues? There are many unanswered questions as Hartman leaves office.

A cloud of controversies have hung over Barnegat for the time Hartman has been in office. The GOP machine that runs Barnegat will benefit from Hartman's departure, yet they will still have to answer for Hartman's record. Barnegat was once voted by NJ Monthly magazine as "The Best Place to Live in Ocean County". Barnegat has fallen over a dozen spots in Ocean County this year alone, and is 270 in the state overall. That may be the best example of the Hartman legacy. It wasn't so much his lies and unresponsiveness...it was more what we lost. Our NJ Monthly Magazine rating went down. Our quality of life went down. Our trust in our elected officials went down. The only thing that went up was our taxes.
