Melchiondo and Cirulli Try To Fool The People of Barnegat for Another 3 Years
The political propaganda sent to our homes is not only an insult to our intelligence, it is ultimately an embarrassment to Barnegat when people from other towns say how can Barnegat keep putting the same people in office when all they do is raise taxes while Barnegat declines. As Independents with absolutely no political ties, we feel we must speak out against lies and mis-representations sent to our homes by the political machine that runs Barnegat. Unfortunately we have seen very little from the Democratic candidates. They may think that the people of Barnegat are too knowledgeable to fall for these lies, but we at DowntownBarnegat.com want to make sure every single voter knows the truth before they vote. So we will look at the current literature and also literature from 3 years ago so you can make up your own mind.
Let's look at this one from a few weeks ago. Melchiondo and Cirulli say...
"ZERO MUNICIPAL TAX INCREASE IN 4 OUT OF 5 YEARS!"
This is a bold-faced LIE. Melchiondo and Cirulli think that you are such a chump that you don't know that you received huge tax hikes in 2007 and 2008. And in 2009, Melchiondo and Cirulli voted to raise the cap on how much they can hike your taxes in 2010. This is all detailed on our front page story "Mayor Lies, Taxes Rise". This my friends should be all you need to know to hold Melchiondo and Cirulli responsible. They "promised" you no tax hikes for the next 3 years when they ran for election in 2006. They broke that promise and raised your taxes 2 years in a row. Now -- 3 years later -- they tell you they didn't raise your taxes! Unbelievable.
"Shared services with the Barnegat Township School District...saving Taxpayer Dollars."
This is a joke, but it's not funny. Cirulli was the one that said that our school district was going to "bankrupt" our town. Does anyone remember that? At the same time Melchiondo and Cirulli were sneaking in their own 2007 tax hike while they attacked our schools. One person who shouldn't forget this is our Board of Education Vice President Lisa Becker. At the time, she pointed out how Melchiondo and Cirulli's 2007 budget had millions of dollars of tax hikes in it. Now, they want to share services with our school district when the current school budget had a tax DECREASE while the Melchiondo and Cirulli budget had a tax INCREASE.
The most alarming thing is that Melchiondo and Cirulli want to share services with other members of their political machine in Waretown. Waretown...where ex-Mayor Van Pelt was arrested on Federal corruption charges. Melchiondo and Cirulli want to spend your tax dollars with their friends in Waretown. No thank you! We don't want any chance of "shared" corruption in Barnegat. We deserve honest leaders controlling our tax dollars.
"Partnering with the Barnegat Youth Football & Cheer leading League...resurrecting Lower Shore Park."
It is despicable that Melchiondo and Cirulli take credit for the hard work of others. Great volunteers cared so much about their children that they worked hard to fix up the field that Melchiondo and Cirulli ignored for so long. What Melchiondo and Cirulli wanted to do was put up a cell tower next to the field with all the little kids playing in it. Jamie Griffin stopped them from putting up the cell tower and Melchiondo and Cirulli NOW take credit for Jamie Griffin's hard work also. Incredible...sad...pathetic...but true.
"Combined efforts to bring you Pet Day, Community Day, Pirate's Day & the Farmer's Market."
Melchiondo and Cirulli sadly think this is a reason to vote for them! It is also why they put a stop to Barnegat's only non-political day of town pride...Heritage Day. Melchiondo and his morally corrupt Chamber of Commerce leaders showed how low they would go when they killed an event that they couldn't use for political gain. The people of Barnegat should have known that Melchiondo and company would lie about anything when they lied about Heritage Day. Is anyone surprised now that they lie about the big things too? Do taxes ring a bell...anyone?
Now for a blast from the past. Look at this political mailers sent to you by Melchiondo and Cirulli in 2006.
On the back it says
"WORKING HARD EVERYDAY TO KEEP US #1"
Well Melchiondo and Cirulli should have worked harder over the past 3 years because Barnegat is not #1 anymore. We were #1 BEFORE Melchiondo was elected...but since he was elected, Barnegat plumetted down 13 spots in Ocean County alone and is #270 overall in New Jersey! Melchiondo and Cirulli's own material from just 3 years ago shows what an absolute failure they have been to Barnegat.
Melchiondo and Cirulli were put into power by a mere 11 votes in 2006. EVERY VOTE COUNTS! Do your part for your children, for the Seniors, and for yourself. Know the truth...and vote.

Pride and Progress?
Melchiondo and Al Cirulli are running under the slogan "pride and progress" in a bid for re-election. Yet, they haven't mentioned the crime rate which is up 37% in 1 year. Burglaries are up 57 % , These are disturbing statistics because the taxpayers have financed over $500,000 in improvements for new technology and equipment for the Barnegat PD.
What is their plan to reduce crime? Do the Police need more Officers? Barnegat is 34 square miles, but half of it is forest and preserved land. Almost half of the population is senior citizens who provide valuable tax dollars to finance the schools and the Police Dept., but use little of their services.
These are questions that should be answered by the incumbents.
