Biggy Goes To Bat For Barnegat Again
Is Someone Crying Foul?

David P. Biggy wrote a 3rd article in the Times-Beacon newspapers on 4/4/07. For some reason he felt compelled to clarify his remarks with the reason not being totally clear. After reading his column, it seems like Mr. Biggy may be getting some flack from someone for telling the truth.

Mr. Biggy makes an interesting point in his column by saying "While my opinions may be strong, those in my column are not there to be used a springboard for others to bash town officials or political members of any town." Mr. Biggy doesn't identify those using his words -- if there is anyone -- but it certainly seems like SOMEONE is very worried that his words may lead to the people of Barnegat demanding better recreational facilities.

We did not see anyone else quoting Mr. Biggy's words other than this website, but we could have missed it. Just in case Mr. Biggy is referring to DowntownBarnegat.com (which he probably isn't) -- or more importantly -- if anyone THINKS he may be referring to us please allow us to clarify a few things ourselves...

DowntownBarnegat.com is totally non-partisan. Like Mr. Biggy "we call things how we see them". Our policy has always been that if we post anything -- even our own opinion -- that is either factually untrue or something that a reader doesn't agree with, we will post an opposing response or correct any mistake we make. To this point we have never had a single person factually object to any content on this site regarding our town leaders as not being the truth.

Another thing, telling the truth is not bashing any town officials or political members of our town. If you tell the truth and someone looks bad because of it, that's not bashing, that's the truth. Our political leaders should be able to be accountable for their actions, regardless of political affiliation. When they make decisions that hurt our children, we have a responsibility to speak up and hold these decisions up to the light of day. This site has never "bashed" anyone, and never will. If Mr. Biggy was referring to DowntownBarnegat.com in any way, or anyone thinks that he was, then this is a site you have obviously not been reading over the past 6 years. So it is clear to us that Mr. Biggy was NOT referring to the good work we do for our community, but it would be interesting to know WHO he was referring to.

Mr. Biggy did something that probably scared those in power. He told the truth as he sees it, and get this -- it was in the newspaper. Wow! What a concept! Barnegat Township was not able to use his column for public relations spin...and we the public are happy about that.

Mr. Biggy's strong opinions SHOULD be used for a springboard. Not to "bash", but to effect positive change. That is what our goal for this website is. We hope Mr. Biggy writes a column to clarify his column of clarity. Who are these people accused of bashing our town leaders? And what exactly are they saying? If they don't have the betterment of our community as their first priority and they are playing politics with our childrens' recreational opportunities, we would like to know who they are. In addition, if anyone tried to stop or influence Mr. Biggy, we should know that also. Most importantly we want our leaders to be accountable to the people they serve. And Mr. Biggy's column is helping us all who have nothing POLITICAL to gain, but would simply benefit from better recreation. That's why we have always reached out and worked with whomever WAS - IS - and WILL BE in charge of town hall. That's why we do what we do...to make our town the best place to live for ourselves, and our children.

One last important note...we at DowntownBarnegat.com are not politicians...we are not political. We have worked with and voted for members of all political parties. What are we? Taxpayers...parents...business owners...and people who have the courage to speak the truth.

Keep up the good work Mr. Biggy, you are blessed to be in a position to speak out and effect change. Now maybe we can get back to the point of your initial column...WHO WILL LISTEN?
