Banners Symbolize Heritage Day
Chamber of Commerce makes corrections, and another Email sent to Twp. Administrator Breeden on 10/9/06. We asked for his help.

A Heritage Day volunteer gladly volunteered her time & creative talent to design the green banners you see hanging around Downtown Barnegat & town hall...which encorporates the logo she developed nearly 5 years ago to promote the town clock project and Heritage Day. This logo appeared on every promotional piece for the Clock & Heritage Day for the past 5 years. That's why it was a natural tie-in to encorporate this logo into these banners celebrating downtown Barnegat -- something the clock & Heritage Day symbolized from the very beginning.

The very Township Committee she did these banners for now has publicly turned their backs not only on her, but Heritage Day and the volunteers that made the clock, and this day possible. The Committee flies the very symbol of the day THEY killed...not only in our downtown area, but in front of Town Hall where we go to pay our taxes.

Because of the lack of respect they've shown for the volunteers that made the Barnegat Clock Project & subsequent Heritage Day a reality, the Township Committee should at least have the dignity to take these banners down in front of Town Hall.

The disrespect they've shown to the person who created these banners for them is despicable...have they no shame?

Apparantly not! These town leaders sit back and are silent, and give misleading statements to the press as our volunteers are attacked. The only leader who showed any support or spoke up in public in Heritage Day volunteers' defense was Len Morano, and we thank him for that support. We hope that our other leaders would do the right thing and speak up also. None of the others - Hartman, Cirulli, Blumenthal, Melchiondo made any public statements at Town Hall to support the volunteers & Heritage Day, yet they walk by its symbol every day they as go to work for us.

What is their opinion? We don't know...none of them ever replied to our letter asking them to denounce the lies & misconceptions that were being spread about the demise of Heritage Day and its volunteers. Yet they have the gaul to fly its symbol

We must remember that they work for us. If they want to fly the symbol of Heritage Day -- and NOW the symbol of this website in front of town hall, that's their decision. We welcome them promoting this site, but the right thing to do would be to honor the wishes of the artist who created them in good faith and take them down now that the township has dishonored her, and the people who have supported Heritage Day.

The Township Committee's partner in killing Heritage Day is the leadership of the Barnegat Chamber of Commerce. They not only use the symbol of Heritage Day on their website, they have used the Heritage Day logo on advertisments promoting Pirate's Day. All this would be OK...if this Chamber leadership hadn't worked to undermine and stop Heritage Day from happening (where there's never a charge for people to set up tables), in order to move Community Day into its place...where they DO charge for tables.

They killed Heritage Day, yet they use its symbol. Can you believe it?

Editor's Note: After this story was posted on DowntownBarnegat.com, the Chamber of Commerce finally removed the Heritage Day symbol from the masthead of their website. It's important to know that this was done only after this story ran, and NOT when the logo's creator personally and privately asked Chamber President Jerry Thompson to not use the Heritage Day logo to promote the Chamber almost 1 year ago. We thank him for finally doing the right thing in this regard. There is hope!
